Management of the Common

A Commoner is any person who has resided in the ancient parish of Rushmere St Andrew for twelve months or more. The boundary of the ancient parish has become indistinct over the years due to building development. At one time it was the practice to "beat the bounds".

The day-to-day management of the common is vested in the Commoners Committee. In accordance with the Trust Deed, the Committee has nine members, three of the members are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.

Propositions for the AGM have to be published fourteen days before the date of the meeting. At the meeting only one vote per household is allowed.

The committee is supported by a Clerk and two wardens. The wardens patrol the common on most days and keep a watching brief on the area in general.

The clerk deals with the correspondence and record keeping as well as the financial accounts.
