FRIENDS OF RUSHMERE COMMON
Although Rushmere Common is owned by the Commoners, namely those aged over 18 years who reside in the ancient Parish of Rushmere, (see the qualifying streets elsewhere in the website) there are many others who enjoy the amenity.
Maintaining the Common to a good standard is expensive, and more could be done than the income, which comes mostly from Rushmere Golf Club as rent, allows. The Golf Club itself spends thousands of pounds on maintaining the golf course.
The Common is managed by nine elected Trustees, the Clerk and two Wardens. Major maintenance is contracted out, but much minor work could be done by organised volunteers, such as litter picking path maintenance and minor maintenance tasks.
It has been agreed that it would be a good idea to recruit Commoners and Non-Commoners alike, who have an interest in Rushmere Common and wish to help keep it as a safe and enjoyable amenity as well as to encourage a community spirit.
If you would like to become a Friend of Rushmere Common please contact John Adams at 01473 710406 angelajohnadams@btinternet.com An inaugural meeting will be arranged given sufficient support.
